Biography
Sherry Romanado was elected as the Member of Parliament for Longueuil—Charles-LeMoyne in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 and 2021.
Born and raised in Greenfield Park, Quebec, where she continues to reside, she holds a Certificate in Public Relations from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Concordia University. Before entering politics, she held leadership roles in higher education and transportation, including faculty lecturer in Public Relations at McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies and Assistant Director of Continuing Education at Champlain College. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Champlain College Saint-Lambert Foundation and The Chartered Institute for Transport and Logistics, chairing its Education Committee for North America.
As an elected official, MP Romanado has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Emergency Preparedness, as well as to the Minister for Seniors, and the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence. From 2021 to 2023, she held the role of Deputy Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. She has been a member of several House of Commons Standing Committees, including Procedure and House Affairs, Human Resources Skills and Social Development, Veterans Affairs, and National Defence, as well as the Special Committee on Electoral Reform. She also chaired the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology and served on the Special Committee on the Economic Relationship between Canada and the United States.
In 2022, she introduced Bill C-224, An Act to establish a national framework for the prevention and treatment of cancers linked to firefighting, which received Royal Assent in June 2023. This historic legislation, which successfully advanced in just 17 months, received unanimous support in both the House and Senate—a testament to her collaborative approach and the strong cross-party relationships she has cultivated.
The proud mother of two sons serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, Sherry has long been an advocate for first responders, military personnel, veterans, and their families. She was an active volunteer with the CGG 1979 Centennial Cadet Corps of Greenfield Park, serving as Vice-President and Communications Director, and is a long-time member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 94 and the Greenfield Park Lions Club.
A passionate long-distance runner, she has competed in numerous races and half-marathons.
